Activated Carbon Storage Instructions

● Transportation, loading and unloading: 

Activated carbon should not be dragged with iron hooks during transportation. It should be prevented from being mixed with hard substances. It should not be strongly vibrated, rubbed, stepped on, or smashed.

There must be a gap between packages/ pallets, and they cannot be arranged much closely . 500KG packages can be stacked up to no more than 2 layers, and 25KG packages can be stacked up to no more than 1 ton/pallet .

● Storage:

Activated carbon should be stored in a cool and dry place, not hot and humid. It is recommended that the air humidity be below 50% . Prevent the inner and outer packaging bags from breaking, and prevent moisture and other substances from being absorbed, which will decrease its adsorption ability. It is strictly forbidden to mix activated carbon with toxic and harmful gases or volatile substances, and store activated carbon away from pollution sources.

● Water immersion is strictly prohibited:

Activated carbon is a porous adsorption substance, so during transportation, storage and use, activated carbon must absolutely prevent water immersion, for water fills the active pores, reducing the direct contact between the specific surface of activated carbon and the gas, reducing its adsorption ability.

●Prevent tar-like substances:

During the use of activated carbon, tar viscous substances should be prohibited from entering the activated carbon bed, so as not to block the pores of the activated carbon or cover the surface of the activated carbon, so that the gas cannot contact the surface of the activated carbon and make it lose its application effect. If the gas contains such substances, it should be before the gas enters the activated carbon bed, remove it (preferably with decoking equipment) to achieve better application effect.

●Fire protection:

During activated carbon’s storage or transporttion, keep it away from fire sources to prevent fire. When the moisture content of activated carbon is less than 5%, the storage environment temperature cannot exceed 100°C; when the moisture content of activated carbon is 15%, the storage environment temperature cannot exceed 200°C.

The storage warehouse is required to be equipped with fire prevention equipment such as carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.

● Use:

When filling activated carbon, it is recommended to sieve or blow off the broken particles and dust caused by transportation, loading and unloading, and then spread it evenly in layers. It is not recommended to pour it directly from the feeding hole, so as to avoid uneven filling, causing gas deviation and affecting the use effect. After filling , it is recommended to blow out the dust adhered to the surface of the activated carbon before using it, so as to avoid the dust being brought into the subsequent section and affecting the normal production.

●Safety Requirements:

An airtight container may consume oxygen, resulting in a hypoxic environment. If workers need to enter a container filling activated carbon to take samples or work in a low-oxygen space, they should abide by relevant national standards and operating specifications.
