1. Raw Material Preparation

Input: M2/M35 HSS round bars

QC: Chemical composition analysis / microstructure inspection

Processing: Precision cutting (sawing/turning)

2. Hot Rolling/Forming

Process: Induction heating (1100-1200°C) → Closed-die forging → Controlled cooling

Output: Near-net-shape blank with flute profile

3. Turning/Rough Grinding

Operations: OD turning of shank/neck → Centerless grinding (if required)

Tolerance: ±0.1mm concentricity

4. Flute Milling

Equipment: CNC groove milling machine

Parameters: Helix angle 30°±0.5°, flute depth ±0.02mm

In-process QC: Symmetry verification

5. Heat Treatment

Stage

Key Technical Notes

1. Critical Control Points (CCP)

Austenitizing temperature ±5°C

Grinding wheel dressing interval: ≤50 pcs

Coating adhesion: ≥80N (scratch test)

2. Material-Specific Variations

| Material      | Process Deviation               |

|---------------|---------------------------------|

| HSS-Co (8%)   | Higher austenitizing temp (+20°C)|

| Solid Carbide | Sintering → Brazing → EDM fluting|

3. Compliance Standards

Dimensional: ISO 10899 / ANSI B94.11M

Testing: ISO 3290 (tool life), ASTM E384 (microhardness)

Safety: OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart O

4. Rejection Triggers

Decarburization >0.05mm depth

Radial runout >3% of diameter

Coating pitting density >5/cm²

This industrial workflow ensures drills meet DIN/ANSI Class 1 precision standards, with typical cycle time of 12-15 minutes per unit for Ø3-20mm sizes. For carbide drills, add "Green Compact Sintering" before Step 3 and "Laser Fluting" replacing Step 4.
